• Introducing LIFE Groups at DCC

This fall we are going to be launching at new ministry initiative called LIFE Groups! LIFE Groups are a way for people to connect with one another, study the Bible, consider the Christian life, and serve others in a very safe and friendly environment.
LIFE Groups meet on Sunday mornings at the DCC location as well as throughout the week at various locations throughout the Animas Valley. If you are interested in finding a LIFE Group for visit, please use our Group Finder. There you will be able to peruse all of the groups we currently offer, contact group leaders and even register for a group.

• Experience Passover Celebration

You are invited to join us on April 12th as we welcome Rabbi Victor Blum to Durango Christian Church to lead us in a full Passover Feast.
Rabbi Blum leads the Kehilat Even Israel congregation in Jerusalem and will be guiding our congregation through a genuine Passover Feast as he teaches the scriptural and historical background from the Torah as well as connect each part to the Messiah.
If you have never been to a Passover Feast, this is certain to enrich your understanding of the Old Testament, the prophetic nature of the Passover, and your own approach to partaking in The Lords Supper.
All are welcome however a reservation is appreciated in order to insure that plenty is prepared for the meal. You can RSVP by calling the church office at 247-1929. Hope to see you there! Shalom

• Financial Peace University

Durango Christian Church will be offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University beginning in January 2011. Dave Ramsey, radio personality, author and host on the Fox Business Network teaches sounds financial practices through a series of DVD lessons and group discussions that will help families deal with the financial challenges they face and reach their long term financial goals.

• Happy House: October 31

Each year Durango Christian Church offers a special Halloween Treat to the community of Durango called Happy House. Happy House is carnival style experience geared toward elementary and pre-school aged children. Far from the haunted counterparts, Happy House is a kid friendly place full of games and prizes that has consistently been a favorite stop for hundred’s of children each year.
At Happy House, kids encounter numerous carnival style games they can play and win prizes and candy. From putt putt golf, ring toss, and frisbee throw to pop-corn and cotton candy, happy house is completely free and each child can leave happy house with a bag full of goodies and giant smile on their faces!
You can get involved with happy house by donating some of the 10,000 pieces of candy that we give away at Happy House or volunteer to help by running a game booth, helping crowd flow, or handing out goodies. for more information, contact the church office at 247-1929.

• What’s New At DCC? Everything!

We’re celebrating a new day at Durango Christian Church. We’ve recently undergone a host of changes that have greatly impacted our ministry in very positive ways and we’re excited to share it with our community.
We’ve been working hard on bringing our facilities up to date and create a warm and comfortable environment for ministry and personal spiritual growth. We have replaced our auditorium seating with new, more comfortable chairs that will allow us expand our capacity by more than 50%. We’ve added some new technology tools that will enhance our presentation quality. We’ve redesigned our youth room and...we’ll you have to see it to believe it!
We’ve added lots of new signage - more to come in the next few weeks. We’ve dedicated our entire parking lot to guest parking so our guests don’t have to drive around looking for a spot and walk blocks to get to church. And our youth group is hosing the Crossfire Cafe every Sunday morning at 9 AM with coffee, donuts and more.
We’ve also combined our two worship services into one fully blended worship experience and we love it! It has been great to see people getting to know other church members that they’ve never met before because they were in another service. It’s also been exciting to see so many new faces in worship as well!
So come and check out the new improved Durango Christian Church. It’s the same friendly folks, same Biblical teaching, just better!

• Laugh With Lyndy At DCC

Dallas-based Christian Humorist/Entertainer Lyndy Phillips, is scheduled to perform 7pm, August 11, 2010, at Durango Christian Church (255 E. 11th Street) in Durango. Admission is free and a BBQ Dinner begins at 6pm.
Laughter...the best medicine. Since 1988, Lyndy Phillips has entertained audiences with his laugh-out-loud stories, comedy sleight of hand, and side-splitting audience participation. He appeared two seasons on FamilyNet’s The Nana Puddin’ Show as Magical Mailman Lyndy. He’s been seen in churches and organizations from Hawaii to The Bahamas and brings laughter to audiences of all ages. Lyndy is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Christian Comedy Association...and Sam’s Wholesale Club!

• New Service Time Coming Soon!

There are a while host of things changing at Durango Christian Church, one of which is out service times. Beginning August 1st, our Sunday morning schedule will be completely reinvented.
Our worship services will be combined on August 1st and our worship service will begin at 9:30 AM. The following is a complete schedule for our Sunday mornings.
New Sunday Morning Schedule*
8:45 am - Front Line Ministry; prayer gathering in the worship center
9:00 am - Coffee and donuts and friendship out front in the newly launched Crossfire Cafe.
9:30 am - Worship Service Begins
11:00 am - Sunday school for all children and youth
11:00 am - Elective classes for all adults †

• Kids...Helps Parents Grow

For years now groups of La Plata County parents have been growing in their skill as parents through a series of classes called Growing Kids God's Way. This seventeen week video based course has been presented at the Durango Christian Church.

Growing Kids God's Way is a practical course based on the belief that the goal of parenting should be to raise morally responsible children. Through this class parents gain insights into parenting styles and are provided with an effective alternative to the authoritarian, permissive, child centered, and democratic parenting styles most often used by today's families.

With Growing Kids... parents learn about: Teaching their child moral and practical reasons behind proper behavior; How to nurture relationships in the family by practicing the five languages of love; Dads learn about their role as builders of family identity and the importance of trusting relationships; Participants study the development of their child's conscience and the elements that make up character development.

Issues surrounding discipline are presented over several weeks of the Growing Kids...curriculum. To the surprise of many, obedience in a child is found to be more dependent on parents than on their child's temperament. Parents learn to use wisdom in guiding each child's skill development, encouragement in proper behavior, and correction of wrong behavior. Growing Kids... even provides answers to age-old problems of whining, tantrums, lying, cheating, tattling, and teenage rebellion.

A new session of Growing Kids God's Way will begin September 2010. Jon and Tiffany Alsdorf will be leading this series of Growing Kids..., their fifth since beginning in 2000. The first meeting is introductory and will be held at Durango Christian Church at 3rd Ave. and 11th Street dates and times to be announced in Auguest. The introductory meeting is free; however there will be a charge for those who decide to take the class to cover the cost of materials. There will be no childcare provided at this meeting.
