To be held at La Plata County Fairgrounds in the Exhibit Hall.
Join us! Learn facts about homelessness.
Durango Christian Church is proud to sponsor the first Forum on Ending Homelessness. Our Community Compassion Outreach (CCO) program brings a first-time opportunity to learn academic facts and evidence-based solutions for the issues for people experiencing homelessness.
Thank you to our sponsors: First National Bank of Durango and Unitarian Universalists of Durango!
Also, we appreciate Manna Soup Kitchen for supplying Hot Dogs and Buns to feed the Homeless at the end of the event day (3:30P-4:30P)
We will hear from County Commissioner Julie Westendorff and Mayor Dick White on the county’s and city’s perspectives in illegal camping creating health and safety concerns of existing homeless camps in the woods.
CCO’s director Donna Mae gets regular updates from county and city officials on the status of a relocation of the existing camp, while Fort Lewis College (FLC) Engineering Design & Practice Class performs design study the HHi House for the Homeless. If the HHi House passes the evaluation and analysis for safe habitation, it will be suggested as a temporary/permanent solution to ending homelessness in La Plata County and other parts of the country. DCC’s collaboration with FLC’s engineering department, nonprofits, public agencies, and local government is bringing awareness to the nationwide lack of affordable housing.
